LIMES – Land and Sea Monitoring for Environment and Security

LIMES was a project funded by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme as a part of the Global Monitoring for Environment and Security (GMES) program, a precursor of the currently known Copernicus program (https://www.copernicus.eu/en).
The aim of the LIMES project was to analyse possibility of application of various satellite technologies, including Earth Observation, navigations and telecommunication, for the purpose of European security. The idea was to develop applications and services within three areas of interest including Maritime Surveillance, Land and infrastructure Surveillance and Humanitarian Relief and Reconstruction.
CBK PAN was involved in activities under the Land Border Monitoring cluster and was responsible for development of Border Permeability Index and Accessibility Maps.

Selected areas of the LIMES project were further investigated within the G-MOSAIC project.
